1. Generic top-level domains

This is probably the most common type of domain name extensions. It includes domain extensions such as .com, .org, .net, .biz, and others. You can register for these names now, anyone can. They also include restricted domain extensions which belong to an organization or a group and most of them require one to apply for them. Some of the advantages of generic top-level domains for businesses are branding, marketing efficiency, and customer experience. Generic top-level domain names allow businesses to claim a brand name that represents their company’s service niche or mark. 2. Country code top-level domains

These domains are created to be used within a specific area, state, territory or country. Usually, these domains are known as country code extensions and they might require from the user who registers the domain name to live in the chosen country. You need to keep in mind that this type of domain may not be searchable outside the country. Each area or country has its own top-level domain.
